National Defence Academy (NDA) is one such institute. It moulds your personality and enlightens your mind with fruitful knowledge.

NDA is the first academy in the world to provide tri- service to the cadets of Indian Armed Forces. It is located in Khadakwasla, Pune. The institute ranks as the top most place to train cadets of Indian Air Force, Indian Army and Indian Navy. It is the over-reaching desire of nearly every Defence aspirant. It provides a full time, residential, undergraduate course combined with an incomparable Defence training.

To join this reputed institute an applicant must understand the NDA selection procedure. NDA has a three way entrance procedure and the details of it are explained below:

The notification for NDA entrance is released twice a year, that is, in December/ January and later in June/ July.

The selection procedure incorporates a written exam as conducted by UPSC, SSB interview and a medical examination.

WRITTEN EXAM: An offline written exam is the first step of NDA entrance procedure. It is conducted by UPSC in the month of April and September generally. The exam involves 2 broad subjects, that is, Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). GAT is further divided into 2 parts: Part A that is, English and Part B, that is, general knowledge which involves Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Civics, Social Science, Current Events.

Each paper is scheduled for 2 ½ hours. Mathematics paper is of 300 marks while GAT is of 600 marks. Talking about GAT separately, the English section incorporates 200 marks and General Knowledge incorporates 400 marks.

Total marks are hence 900 and those lucky students who qualify the written part are eligible to go for SSB.

SSB interview: The next stair to NDA is the challenging SSB interview session. It is a 5 day procedure which assesses one’s psychological and intelligence level. The test involves PPDT, TAT, WAT, G.D, PI, HGT, FGT, and various other tasks. SSB has been introduced with the motive to examine your intelligence, written and spoken skills, team spirit, physical strength, spontaneity, reasoning, quick decision making ability, intelligence, general knowledge and confidence.

MEDICAL TEST: Lastly, all the selected candidates will have to appear for a short medical examination which has a list of different parameters. To know the complete criterion check the official website of UPSC.

The eligibility criteria for NDA is listed below, get a quick look of the same:

For Army Wing of NDA: The cadet should have passed 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University

For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at Naval Academy: The cadet should have passed 10+2 pattern of School Education or equally treated exam organized by a State Education Board or a University with physics and mathematics as main subjects.

Age: The aspirant should be of age between 16 and half to 19 years as on 1st January of the year the examination.
