AUDIT THE MEDICAL STANDARDS

With exams approaching near and last minute preparation on verge, many students jerk to yet another important element for selection- the medical standards.

Any and every part of the huge stack of the Indian Armed Force requires a three way procedure- written, interview and medical assessment. AFCAT is no exception.

Having an eye for those who aim for the high sky, the Indian Air Force has been conducting AFCAT exam since ages to pave entry into flying branch and ground duty (technical and non- technical). Searching for the punchline? Well, here it is: AFCAT does not debar any gender, both girls and boys are eligible for this doorway to Air Force. Indian Air Force is the 4th largest Air Force and conducts AFCAT twice a year embodying a written exam, SSB interview and Medical examination.

Don your lenses because it’s show time. Let’s plunge on to the third fraction of the process- the medical standards! So here is the most chased list:

If you are lucky enough to champion both the written and the interview segments then you will be asked to reach AFSME, New Delhi or IAM Bengaluru for medical examination

The various medical parameters for AFCAT includes:

Candidates must ensure they do not have any chronic disease or disability

They must be in good mental+ physical state of health

A well developed chest with 5 cm as minimum range of expansion

Normal blood pressure, no sign of AIDS, no past record of heart and blood vessel malfunctioning are crucial points-to- note.

Hearing must be normal

Numbers of teeth must lie in the normal acceptable range

Add to that, the candidate must be assertive of no inguinal hernia, no enlargement of liver or spleen and no disease of internal organs

Talking about don’t’s, there is more to the list of ‘no’ such as :

No piles, no hydrocele, no varicocele, no skin disease, no history of mental breakdown or fits, and no abnormality of urine examination.

Candidates who underwent PRK/ LASIK will be taken fit for commissioning in all the branches.

Exceptional note- it- down criteria for Flying Branch incorporates:

  • No arthritis or spondylosis
  • No spine disease
  • No degenerative joint disease
  • No non articular rheumatism
  • No compression fracture of vertebrae
  • No scheurman’s disease
  • No degenerative disc disease
  • No bilateral/ unilateral cervical ribs
  • No sacrilisation and no lumbarisation

AFCAT Exam Physical and Medical Standards

Next, the module of height- weight combo is essential to know as well:

FLYING BRANCH:  Minimum acceptable height (for men and women)-

162.5 cm;

Leg length- Minimum- 90 cm; Maximum- 120 cm

Thigh length- Maximum- 64 cm

Sitting height: Minimum- 81.5 cm; Maximum- 96 cm

GROUND DUTY: Minimum acceptable height (men)- 157.5 cm

Minimum acceptable height (female)- 152 cm
