Indian Naval Academy Hosts Spring Term 2025 Convocation Ceremony
Dr. Jaitirth R. Joshi encourages graduates to champion innovation while honouring naval heritage, as 83 midshipmen and 5 international cadets are awarded engineering degrees.
On May 30, 2025, the Indian Naval Academy (INA) celebrated a momentous achievement with the Convocation Ceremony for Spring Term 2025. A total of 83 midshipmen were conferred engineering degrees, marking the completion of four years of intensive academic, physical, and naval training—an occasion of immense pride for families, instructors, and the nation.
The convocation also celebrated the achievements of five international trainees from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Tanzania, highlighting the Indian Naval Academy’s growing role in strengthening global naval ties. Their presence underscored India’s dedication to defence diplomacy and maritime cooperation with friendly nations.
Dr. Jaitirth R. Joshi, Director General of BrahMos Aerospace and a distinguished missile scientist, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Since taking charge of BrahMos on December 1, 2024, Dr. Joshi has played a pivotal role in advancing key strategic systems such as the LRSAM and MRSAM. In his address, he inspired the graduating midshipmen to pursue innovation and technical excellence while upholding the Navy’s core values of integrity, service, and honour as they step into their roles as future naval leaders.
Accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Indian Naval Academy’s integrated BTech program is designed to balance academic excellence with specialized military and physical training. This rigorous curriculum ensures that graduates are not only technically proficient but also strategically prepared to meet the evolving challenges of modern naval warfare.
In his inspiring address, Dr. Jaiteerth R. Joshi underscored the growing synergy between India’s defence research initiatives and naval operations. Citing advancements like the upcoming Mark-II variant of the BRAHMOS missile, envisioned to achieve hypersonic speeds, he urged the graduating officers to stay ahead of emerging threats and embrace a culture of innovation and lifelong learning in service of the nation.
Held just months after the Autumn Term 2024 Passing Out Parade on November 30—where 239 trainees, including 8 women and 12 international cadets, were commissioned, the Spring Term 2025 Convocation reinforced the Indian Naval Academy’s vital contribution to building a future-ready naval force. These successive milestones reflect INA’s steadfast commitment to producing officers who are not only technologically skilled but also globally attuned.
International trainees from countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Tanzania fully immersed themselves in the INA experience—celebrating Indian festivals, learning Hindi, and forging strong personal and professional bonds. Their heartfelt appreciation underscored the Academy’s role in promoting cross-cultural camaraderie and defence diplomacy.
With a curriculum that blends time-honoured tradition, unwavering discipline, and cutting-edge innovation, the Spring Term 2025 Convocation reaffirmed INA’s position as a premier institution shaping the next generation of maritime leaders prepared to navigate the complex realities of 21st-century naval operations.
The Spring Term 2025 POP saw the graduation of cadets from the 107 A, 108 INA Course, 38 and 39 NOC (Extended), 40 NOC (Regular), and the 41 NOC (Coast Guard).
