Passing Out Parade at IMA Dehradun, 2024

Believe you can, and you’re halfway there. – Theodore Roosevelt

The Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, Uttarakhand, witnessed yet another proud and emotional day on December 14, 2024, as it hosted its Passing Out Parade (POP) for the autumn batch. The event marked the culmination of rigorous training for 491 Gentleman Cadets (GCs), including 456 from India and 35 from friendly nations, as they embarked on their journey to serve as commissioned officers in the Indian Army.

Celebrating Excellence and Dedication

The day began with a vibrant parade at the iconic Chetwode Drill Square, a moment of pride for the cadets, their families, and the entire nation. The meticulous drills and synchronized movements displayed the cadets’ discipline, determination, and hard work. The parade was complemented by an awe-inspiring aerial display, where helicopters showered rose petals, adding to the grandeur.

Words of Inspiration

Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the reviewing officer for the parade, delivered an inspiring address. He emphasized the need for military leaders to stay prepared for the challenges of the future, especially with the rise of disruptive technologies and multi-theatre operations. General Sigdel commended the graduating cadets for their rigorous training and encouraged them to serve with professionalism and integrity.

Honoring the Best

Several prestigious awards were presented during the ceremony:

  • The Sword of Honour, given to the best all-round cadet, was awarded to Academy Cadet Adjutant Jatin Kumar.
  • The Gold Medal went to Academy Under Officer Pratham Singh for his outstanding performance.
These awards reflect the high standards of excellence upheld by the academy.

A New Chapter Begins

The ceremony concluded with the Pipping Ceremony, where proud parents pinned the ranks onto their sons’ shoulders. This emotional moment symbolized the cadets’ transition from trainees to officers. They will now join their assigned units across the country, ready to serve the nation with courage and honor.

The Passing Out Parade was not just a celebration of the cadets’ achievements but also a reminder of the immense responsibility they carry as future leaders of the Indian Army. As these young officers step into their roles, we wish them strength, wisdom, and success in their journey ahead.
