Thematic Apperception Test, in short TAT, is the first test of the psychological series conducted on the second day of the SSB Interview process. This assessment takes place after the completion of the screening test in SSB. TAT is the test of a candidate’s imagination. In TAT, a total of 12 pictures are shown to candidates. Out of these 12 pictures, 11 are somewhat hazy or unclear while the last image is blank. For each picture, candidates get 30 seconds to visualize and 4 minutes to write down the story. It brings out candidates’ unconscious motives, conflicts, and desires that affect their decisions and reactions, both in their routine and beyond routine lives. In short, TAT is a test of a candidate’s unconscious state of mind which cannot be manipulated. TAT Sample Stories

In this blog, we have attached four sample TAT stories of recommended candidates who had prepared for their SSB interviews under the guidance of Centurion Defence Academy. Many of these candidates were part of Centurion’s Written + SSB interview program. They wrote various TAT stories during their preparation at Centurion Defence Academy but we have provided only a few samples for reference purposes. First Sample TAT Story

In this series of sample TAT stories of recommended candidates, our first sample TAT story is of Juee Rajendra Dhage, who secured AIR 3 in the girls’ category for the NDA 150th course. She cracked her SSB interview from 20 SSB Bhopal. Here is how she described her TAT story:

“Ragini is an agricultural scientist working at ICAR. Recently, she went to conduct a survey on pesticide use in rural areas. In the survey, Ragini found out that farmers were using excessive chemical pesticides. These pesticides impacted not only the farmers’ health but also reduced the quality of the product. After the survey, Ragini submitted her report and asked for permission to develop low-cost organic pesticides for farmers. She found that these could be the best substitute for chemical pesticides. Ragini developed pesticides using neem seeds. She distributed the pesticide developed by her to farmers and also taught them how to develop organic pesticides. Through the efforts of Ragini, farmers started using organic pesticides and were able to save money as well as their health.”

Second Sample TAT Story

The second TAT sample story is of Chandra Prakash Yadav, a proud student of Centurion Defence Academy, who cracked his SSB interview from 14 SSB Allahabad for the NDA 149 course. His TAT story goes like this:

“Mohan, 28, was the head of a village in Unnao. He called for a meeting of the village council to inform the villagers about the increasing dengue cases in nearby villages. He advised them not to store water openly as it breeds mosquitoes. To avoid this, the villagers were advised to put oil in the water to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. Using mosquito nets while sleeping can also prevent the increase in cases. By following this advice, there was a gradual decrease in dengue cases in his village. He organized awareness programs in nearby villages as well, which saved many lives.”

Third Sample TAT Story

The third TAT sample story is of Ayush Priyadarshi Verma, another proud Centurion, who cracked his SSB Interview from 24 SSB Bangalore under the CDS 1 2023 Entry. His TAT story goes like this:

“Shobit, a graduate from Lucknow University, read a newspaper about the low voter turnout from his area in the recent Panchayat elections. He decided to change the numbers in the upcoming state assembly elections to be held after 2 weeks. He called his friends and decided on a plan to make people aware of the importance of voting. He distributed the task of making pamphlets with instructions and awareness groups in different sections. He and his friends went home-to-home and informed the locals about it. He also shared it on social media. As a result of Shobit and his team’s continuous efforts, voter turnout increased remarkably in his locality in the next election.”

Fourth Sample TAT Story

Our fourth sample TAT story is of Harsh Kataria, who cracked his SSB interview from 2 AFSB Mysore to join the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force under the NDA entry. Harsh secured AIR 48 in the final merit list for the NDA 151st course. His TAT story goes like this:

“Vikas, a chief medical officer, was posted in a rural area of Alwar district, Rajasthan. He decided to educate villagers about the importance of vaccinating children and regular health checkups for elders. Vikas, along with his subordinates, went to the village. He had informed the Sarpanch about his arrival. He gathered the villagers and organized a health camp. Vikas divided the team to focus on vaccinating children and regular checkups for elders. He informed the villagers and the women of the village about hygiene and preventive measures to avoid any disease.”
