  1. Self-Description Test (SDT)

  • Format: Write self-perceptions.

What is the SSB Dossier?

The SSB dossier is an internal assessment file that is kept by the examiners while conducting the selection. It has comprehensive inputs of the three examiners – psychologist, GTO, and interviewing officer, and has all your test answers, observations, and body language cues.

  1. Faking responses to show OLQs – The biggest blunder. Psychologists are trained to catch inconsistencies.
  2. Memorizing stories – This kills spontaneity. Repeated or mechanical patterns are easily spotted.
  3. Negative or escapist thoughts – Giving up, avoiding responsibilities or blaming others reflect poorly.
  4. Copy-paste personality in SDT – Don’t try to sound like a motivational speaker. Be honest and self-aware.

How to Prepare for the Psychology Test?

While the test is designed to be spontaneous, here are preparation strategies:

  1. Practice with Time Limits

  • Use online tools or sample booklets to simulate real test conditions.
  • Practice 2-3 sets of each test with a stopwatch.

WAT: Failure – Failure teaches us how to grow better.

SRT: You see a classmate cheating in an exam – I alert the invigilator quietly and focus back on my paper.

SDT (Friends): My friends say I am dependable, fun-loving, and always ready to help. Sometimes I get too involved in helping others, which I’m learning to balance.

  • Be original – Show your life, your values, and your ideas.
  • Be relevant – Don’t write long philosophical essays. Keep responses practical and realistic.
  • Be focused – Your response should reflect a positive attitude, leadership, and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Be honest – The aim is not to be perfect but to be trainable. Officers are not born; they are trained — but only if you’re willing to grow.
