The Son of an Electrician from Haryana Cracked NDA with AIR 59

Dev is from Sonipat, Haryana, and comes from a humble background. His subject choice in 10+2 was unique, as he opted for Humanities along with Mathematics. He also faced challenges with spoken English. Despite these issues, he overcame all obstacles. His journey is truly motivational and inspiring for NDA aspirants.

Initially, Dev was unaware of the NDA entry and he had a plan to join the Army as a General Duty (GD) soldier. However, upon learning about the golden career opportunity presented by the NDA, he shifted his focus and eventually achieved his goal. Dev completed his 12th grade with Humanities + Mathematics and gave three attempts to achieve his dream of joining the NDA.

In his first attempt, Dev couldn’t clear the NDA written exam. In his second attempt, he cleared the written exam but was screened out during the SSB. Finally, under the guidance of Team Centurion, Dev persevered and succeeded in his third and final attempt and secured AIR 59 in the NDA 152 course merit list.

Dev’s advice to NDA aspirants

When we all study together, it means everyone is studying the same material, but where the difference comes in is when you introspect on your own after returning home. Just like in the recent interview I had, I mentioned that you need to introspect yourself at home to understand where improvements are needed. So now as you prepare for the written exam, everyone must be preparing for it. So how do you differentiate yourself from another candidate? Like when we were sitting here, sir used to say that whoever comes here, they don’t even know how they got selected. And that’s absolutely true. Like when I first got screened out, even I didn’t know how I got screened out. And today, even if I am getting selected, it’s not clear which specific thing led to my selection. When you introspect, the answers will come to you naturally, and when you work on those answers, you will get a better result.

Improving English speaking skills

For example, when I came from Haryana, I wasn’t speaking Hindi very well. I was speaking mostly in pure Haryanvi. So, I needed an environment where students are seen working, where habits needed to be developed. So when I contacted Centurion Defence Academy, I asked them if I would get the option of staying longer. So they said yes, it would be available. So I said, “This is the place for my SSB interview preparation.” So it was more helpful to me in everything, like starting from building confidence in English speaking, which you are seeing now, was very low. So I joined Mr. Aditya Dubey Sir’s Spoken English classes. So from there, I gradually developed my confidence. I mean, Aditya sir used to give opportunities to SSB aspirants to come and deliver their lecturettes. On my very first day here, I stood on the stage. I couldn’t even say a single line, yet he still gave me the opportunity. This is how I improved my speaking skills.

Choosing Centurion Defence Academy

When Dev started his SSB preparation, he searched for various coaching institutes and academies. However, due to his limited knowledge of coaching options, he was a bit hesitant as to which one he should join. When he contacted Centurion Defence Academy, he found that this academy provides an option to stay longer beyond the 21-day SSB program. Dev understood that this environment would be conducive to self-analysis and growth.

Dev attended a CBSE board, an English-medium school, though he primarily communicated in Haryanvi. His journey to improve spoken English began during his time at Delhi University. It is important to note that after 12th, Dev joined DU and was pursuing his first year of college when he cracked the NDA exam. There he got exposure to English-language classes and his friends motivated him to gradually transition from Haryanvi to Hindi and then English. While English comprehension and writing were somewhat less challenging, developing spoken skills required more effort.

Talking about his journey, Dev mentioned that self-introspection is very important for personal and academic growth. He encourages NDA aspirants to seek answers within themselves. He even stresses the importance of reflection and awareness of personal weaknesses. Dev believes in the power of disciplined preparation and he further advises his juniors to prioritize hard work and determination while chasing goals.
