Indian Army JAG 124th Notification Out- Check Details

The Indian Army invites applications from unmarried male and female law graduates for grant of Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch under the 124th Course commencing in October 2026.

This entry allows qualified legal professionals to serve as commissioned officers handling military law, court martial cases, administrative law, and operational legal matters within the Indian Army.

Nationality Eligibility

A candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanent settlement in India

Candidates (except Gorkhas of Nepal) must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit (As on 01 July 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years
  • Maximum Age: 27 Years
  • Date of Birth must be between 02 July 1999 and 01 July 2005 (both inclusive)

The date of birth mentioned in the Matriculation / Secondary School Certificate will be treated as final. No changes will be permitted later.

Educational Qualification (Mandatory)

Candidates must fulfil all of the following:

  • LLB Degree (3-year after graduation or 5-year after 10+2)
  • Minimum 55% aggregate marks
  • Degree must be from a BCI-recognised university/college
  • Must be eligible for enrolment as an Advocate with the Bar Council of India / State Bar Council
  • CLAT PG 2025 score is compulsory for all candidates (including LLM-qualified and pursuing candidates)

Important Notes:

  • Only candidates already in possession of an LLB degree and mark sheets are eligible
  • CLAT PG 2025 result must be verified at the SSB Selection Centre
  • Failure to verify the CLAT PG score will lead to cancellation of candidature
  • Offline applications are not accepted

Vacancies are combined for male and female candidates and are subject to the operational requirements of the Indian Army.

Type of Commission & Service Conditions

  • Short Service Commission (SSC) for an initial 10 years
  • Extendable by 4 years (total 14 years)
  • Consideration for Permanent Commission (PC) after 10 years, subject to eligibility and organisational policies

Training Details – OTA Chennai

  • Training Academy: Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai
  • Training Duration: 49 Weeks
  • Training is conducted at government expense

Training Rules:

  • Marriage is not permitted during training
  • Candidates marrying after application submission will be disqualified
  • Marriage during training will lead to discharge and recovery of training costs

Successful candidates will be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management & Strategic Studies by the University of Madras.

2.4 km Run

  • Men: 10 min 30 sec
  • Women: 13 min

Push-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges

Swimming (25 m) – mandatory
