Air Force X-Y Group Exam Pattern

The Indian Air Force selection process divides applicants into two groups namely Group-X and Group-Y. These groups are categorized on basis of educational qualification. Know about Air Force Exam Pattern of Group X, Y & X-Y.

SCHEDULE FOR X, Y WRITTEN EXAMINATION

Both groups ‘X & Y’ (Eligible for both Technical and Non Technical) – Candidates possessing educational qualification as stipulated above.

Candidates are examined for Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’ subjects in one sitting and can qualify for Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’ or both i.e., if candidate passes in English and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA), then he will be considered pass in Group ‘Y’ and if he passes in English, Physics and Maths, he is considered pass in Group ‘X’.

If a candidate clears all the four subjects, he will be considered pass in Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’. After written test, psychological test based on reasoning is conducted. Then group discussion session comes.

Sometimes candidate may be called for random interview. The basic objective of this interview is to assess the power of expression and social adaptability factors in candidate. After completion of these tests, consolidated marks are declared. If candidate is having NCC ‘C’ certificate then he is awarded with additional marks. Then after, merit is declared.

Air force Adaptability Test

While Phase 1 of Air Force X- Y group selection involves written exam, Phase 2 involves Adaptability test 1 (AT 1), Adaptability test 2 (AT 2) and Physical Fitness Test (PFT).

ADAPTABILITY TEST (AT) 1

AT 1 involves a series of Situation Reaction Tests (SRTs) which assess the candidate’s adaptability to survive in various geographical, social and climatic conditions. Herein candidates get 40 SRT questions with 4 options in each. Time scheduled is 30 minutes. The situations are from daily life.

ADAPTABILITY TEST (AT) 2

AT 2 on the other hand is a test of English proficiency. It involves Lecturette round and Group Discussion. AT2, as the name suggests, also tests your adaptability power but this time it’s a test of your adaptability to work, colleagues and employment. Communication skill, English spoken skills, confidence, and general knowledge are the main judging parameters. Herein the candidates are given a topic for which they have to prepare a speech within 5 minutes followed by its narration. Each candidate has to give a self introduction before starting the speech

Air force Physical Fitness Test

  • A Running task of 1.6 Km which is to be completed in less than 8 minutes.
  • Bilingual test except English Paper.

REMARKS: Result of test is declared on the same day. Then medical examination starts. Candidates if given green card which means they have successfully cleared all examinations. Now they wait till final all India merit list is declared. Candidates those who are issued red card are required to appeal for remedial process in nearby AFH (Air Force Hospital) for reviewing within stipulated time as prescribed in the given ‘red card’. Mostly candidates are declared passed during re-medical process.

HEIGHT: Minimum acceptable height 152.5 cm.

Medical Examination

After successful completion of PFT, there comes a small Medical Examination. It is conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards and policy. Medical examination would include Baseline Investigation of:

  • Blood Haemogram – Hb, TLC, DLC
  • Urine RE/ME
  • Biochemistry: Blood Sugar Fasting & PP, Serum Cholesterol, Urea, Uric acid, Creatinine, LFT- Serum Bilurubin, SGOT, SGPT
  • X- Ray Chest (PA view)
  • ECG (R)
