Complete List of SSB Centres in India (Army, Air Force & Navy)

If your wish is to join the armed forces, then the one step that you cannot skip is the SSB Interview. This is where candidates who have passed the written testing or have been shortlisted are assessed not just for their academic knowledge, but for their personality, confidence, leadership potential, and other officer-like qualities.

One of the first doubts every aspirant has is, “Where will my SSB interview happen?”

Well, the answer is pretty straightforward. The Services Selection Board (SSB) has different centres across India, and each one follows the same five-day testing process. But here’s the thing, you don’t get to pick your centre. The board will assign it to you, and the details will be mentioned in your call letter.

Why Do We Have Multiple SSB Centres?

The SSB isn’t like a regular exam that you finish in a couple of hours. It’s a five-day personality assessment, which includes:

Screening test (first day elimination round)
Psychology tests
Group tasks (outdoor activities, discussions, problem-solving)
Personal interview
Conference (final board discussion on all candidates)

Since lakhs of candidates appear every year, it would be impossible to manage everyone at just one location. That’s why there are different centres spread across the country, each one equally equipped with testing grounds, psychologists, GTO officers, and interview panels.

No matter where you’re called, the testing process remains the same.

Indian Army SSB Centres

The Indian Army has the maximum number of SSB boards in India. Each centre is called a Selection Centre and hosts multiple boards. Here’s the breakdown:

1. Selection Centre East (SCE), Prayagraj (U.P.)

Boards: 11 SSB, 14 SSB, 18 SSB, 19 SSB, 34 SSB
This SSB centre was established in 1957; it is one of the most vintage and busiest Army centres.
Many of the seniors will tell you that Prayagraj SSB has the highest number of defence aspirants who have ever walked into its gates.

2. Selection Centre Central (SCC), Bhopal (M.P.)

Many candidates are satisfied that they receive a systematic testing approach with a less hustle and bustling environment than they experienced at Prayagraj.

3. Selection Centre South (SCS), Bangalore (Karnataka)

Boards: 12 SSB, 17 SSB, 24 SSB
Fun fact: This is where the very first SSB interview of independent India was held back in 1949!
These days, it’s one of the most sought-after centres considering the fact that Bangalore has excellent connectivity and weather.

4. Selection Centre North (SCN), Jalandhar (Punjab)

Boards: 31 SSB, 32 SSB
This is one of the newest Army SSB centres, established in 2015 and previously operated from Kapurthala. Now, it’s fully functional at Jalandhar.
The centre’s motto is “Nishpaksh, Nihswarth, Nishandeh” (Impartial, Selfless, and Undoubted).

Indian Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs)

Unlike the Army, the Air Force calls its boards AFSBs (Air Force Selection Boards). These are five in number, spread out to cover all zones of the country.

1. AFSB – Dehradun (Uttarakhand)

Founded in the days of World War II (1943), it is the oldest board in the Air Force.
Dehradun has a pleasant environment with plenty of greenery and mountainous views, with a good environment for an uncluttered mind during the 5-day process.

2. AFSB – Mysore (Karnataka)

This board is even recognised for administering the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT), and it is located in the well-known CV Complex.

3. AFSB – Gandhinagar (Gujarat)

The youngest AFSB, established in 2012, and located near the headquarters of the South Western Air Command.
Modern facilities and easy accessibility make it a growing hub for Air Force selections.

4. AFSB – Varanasi (U.P.)

It was started in Patna in 1963 and was moved to Varanasi in 1964.
Located in the historical city of Varanasi, this centre has tested thousands of Air Force aspirants over the years.

5. AFSB – Guwahati (Assam)

The latest facility for the North-East was established to promote increased youth from the region to join the Air Force.

Indian Navy Selection Boards (NSBs & SSBs)

The Navy, too, has its own boards, some standalone and some within existing Army centres.

1. NSB – Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu)

Located at INS Agrani in Coimbatore.
Specially handles 10+2 B.Tech entry candidates.

2. 12 SSB – Bangalore (Karnataka)

Operates from Selection Centre South.
Handles entries like Pilot, Submarine, Logistics, Education, and NDA/CDS candidates.

3. 33 SSB – Bhopal (M.P.)

Works alongside the Army boards but exclusively for Navy entries.

The first full-fledged Navy-only SSB.

How Do You Know Your SSB Centre?

A common doubt is whether you can choose your centre. The answer is no. Once you clear your exam (NDA, CDS, AFCAT, etc.), you’ll get a call letter/email with your centre, date, and reporting time. All you have to do is report there with the required documents.

So don’t waste energy worrying about which centre you’ll get. Focus on your preparation.

Travel & Stay Tips for First-Timers

Plan Early: If you’re a first-time visitor, try reaching the city a day early. This helps you avoid last-minute panic.
Station Pick-up: In most centres, SSB officials wait at the nearest railway station on the reporting day. Don’t worry, you won’t be lost.
Carry Essentials: Apart from documents, carry a few basic medicines, toiletries, and a pair of sports shoes (you will need them for GTO tasks).
Be Light: Don’t carry heavy luggage. SSBs provide basic accommodation and food, so you are covered.
