The NDA 145th Course Passing Out Parade (POP) was held at the iconic Khetarpal Ground in the National Defence Academy. The parade was reviewed by the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. In the 145th course passing out parade at NDA, a total of 1,225 cadets participated in the parade. Besides the President of India, Shri Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Maharashtra, General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, the Commandant of NDA, they also graced the event with their auspicious presence. The NDA, located in Pune, is India’s premier Joint Services Training Institution nurturing military leadership. It is also called the “Cradle of Military Leadership”. The Passing Out Parade (POP) at the National Defence Academy (NDA) marks the completion of 3- years of rigorous military training. After passing out from the NDA, the cadets proceed for one more year of training at their respective training academies. This training is called pre-commissioning training. Among the 1,225 cadets participating in the parade, a group of 348 cadets belonged to the passing out batch. This batch consisted of 186 Army cadets, 36 Naval cadets, and 105 Air Force cadets. Their next phase involves joining specific Pre-Commissioning Training Academies to further prepare for their respective roles in the armed forces.

 

  • Navy cadets will go to the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala in the Kannur district of Kerala.

 

  • Army cadets will go to the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.

 

  • Air Force cadets will go to the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, located in Telangana.

 

Many Proud Centurions Participated in the NDA 145th Course POP

 

November 30 was a very proud day for the National Defence Academy (NDA), nicknamed the Cradle of Military Leadership. Many students of Centurion Defence Academy, which has set a benchmark in the field of the best NDA coaching in India, also participated in the NDA 145th course passing out parade. On this occasion, Chief SSB Mentor Shri Shishir Dixit, Academic Director Gurkirat Kaur, Senior Interviewing Officer (IO) Retd. Group Captain Arnab Basu and parents of proud students of Centurion Defence Academy also witnessed the passing out parade of the 145th course of NDA. On this occasion, the President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu addressed the cadets, parents and all the guests present at the parade and congratulated everyone.

 

Proud Centurions such as Squadron Cadet Captain Shashank Tiwari from Lima Squadron, Vikrant Sahu from Quebec Squadron, Sarthak from Kilo Squadron, Vikas Singh Yadav from Bravo Squadron, and many other students participated in the NDA 145th course, passing out parade and bid goodbye to the National Defence Academy. Mr. Shishir Dixit, Founder-Director of Centurion Defence Academy and the Chief SSB Mentor (Psychology) said that he is proud of his student, Shashank Tiwari, who has been made Squadron Cadet Captain for his excellent performance in academics, PT, and sports. He further informed that, for the first time, 19 girl cadets participated in the NDA passing out parade, out of whom two were students of Centurion Defence Academy.

 

Important Points related to the Passing Out Parade (POP) Ceremony at NDA

 

  • The Passing Out Parade at NDA is held at the Khetarpal Parade Ground, named after Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, PVC, who sacrificed his life in the 1971 Battle of Basantar.

 

  • In the Passing Out Parade of May, NDA cadets wear white summer uniforms for their graduation ceremony, while in November, they switch to navy blue winter uniforms. These uniforms match the time of the year when they finish their training at the academy.

 

  • Cadets undergo tough drill training at the Khetarpal Parade Ground. When they reach their sixth term, they formally bid goodbye to the Academy from this place. NDA cadets bid a formal farewell to the Academy, embraced by emotional moments with their parents in attendance.

 

Historical Significance and Evolution of NDA POP

 

  • The inaugural POP at Khadakwasla was reviewed by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1955.

 

  • Post POP, cadets proceed for a year of pre-commissioning training at respective service academies.

 

  • During the Parade, various prestigious awards like the President’s Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals are conferred to outstanding cadets.

 

  • The President’s Gold Medal for standing first in the overall order of merit.

 

  • The President’s Silver Medal for standing second in the overall order of merit.

 

  • The President’s Bronze Medal for standing third in the overall order of merit.

 

  • The prestigious ‘Chiefs of Staff Banner’, is also presented during the parade to the best performing Squadron of the NDA for being the Champion Squadron.
